Whitelee Windfarm

Just a few miles from Kilmarnock you will find Europe's largest windfarm - Whitelee Windfarm.  Here are some photos.

We DID make windmills!

We used yellow paper and drew patterns on our windmills!

Other Children with their Windmills

All children enjoyed themselves doing their paper windmills! Why don't you try doing your own paper windmills too? Will they be the same as ours?

Other Windmills

I am a Windmill byJade

I am a windmill and I come from Holland. I was built in 1890 in the 19th century on a sunny day. One builder built me. I am 70 feet tall. I am in the middle of a large field. Each year visitors come to see me and learn how I work. They take photos of me and so I am very popular. I show people the wind’s speed. The paint on me is grey and white. The builder’s name is Anthony. It took him two years to build me. Now I am over one hundred years old.

I am a windmill. I go round with the wind. I look like a big flower. On a very windy day I go round very fast. This makes me very tired. Farmers use me to pump up water from wells to water their vegetables.

I am a windmill and I am like an anemometer. The windmill blows and I go round and round with the wind. In Holland there are real windmills and they are bigger than me. There are many colours on me. As a windmill I go round in the direction of the wind.

I am a nice, beautiful, grey windmill. I am a big and a real windmill. I show the speed of the wind. Some people call me an anemometer, because I do similar work as one. The wind goes around me and I go round and round especially when it is a windy day. In Holland they have proper real windmills. They use them to start machines and to pull up water. These windmills are very high and big like me. Even here in Malta, there are windmills. I live in the middle of a big meadow, near a  huge Maltese farmhouse. My work is to pull up water. My master takes good care of me. I am a very happy Maltese windmill.

The windmill works and goes round with the wind. It is used to pump up water from deep wells or underground reservoirs. A windmill is always seen in fields. Farmers find the windmill useful to water their crops. It passes water through a canal to water crops and vegetables. The windmill is used a lot nowadays like it used to in olden days. The windmill is very tall and made of iron. Today, you don’t find a lot of windmills because they now use another method to get water.

I am a Windmill by Nicole

The windmill is made from iron and wood. We find the windmill in fields. It does a lot of work such as grinding wheat and pumps up water to water nearby fields. The windmill turns in the direction the wind is blowing.

I am a Windmill by Tristian

I am a windmill. I am made of iron. I am long and at the top I am round. I am in a field. When the wind blows, I go round and round. When the wind blows stronger, I turn round and round faster.

I am a windmill. I am made of wood and I am bigger than the ones in Holland. I was made in England. You can find me on a big farm in the heart of England’s countryside. I work in good and bad weather. Around me is full of green grass. On my left hand side there is a long lake and on my right there are lots of farms. From time to time I look around and see birds flying high up in the sky and animals playing and grazing on the nearby farms.

I am a Windmill by John

I am a Dutch windmill. I am found in Holland in Amsterdam.  My job is showing people from where the wind is blowing; North, South, West or East, how fast or slow it is moving and how strong the wind is. A lot of tourists from around the world come to see me and my other windmill friends. I am surrounded by beautiful orange, red and yellow tulips. In winter the ground will be covered with snow and a lot of people will come to ski around me. I love being a windmill although when it is very windy we can be harmed, but I still love my job!

Our Windmills

Celine's Story about the Sun

The colour of the sun is yellow .The sun is beautiful and I like the colour of the sun. The sun is very hot. We cannot stay in the sun much or else we need  to  protect ourselves  with a good sunblock. The sun absorbs water from the sea and from the wet clothes we hang on the washing line to dry.

Yanica's Little Wind Poem

Little wind  blow on the hill –top,
Little wind blow   down  the sunshine,
Little wind blow of the rain..
Yanica

Brendan's Weather Poem

What would it be tomorrow ?
Who knows ?
Is it gonna rain or are we having some snow ?
The wind is strong
When it’s from the North.
South wind is dirty and sticky
It makes you feel sick!:(
Bursting  sun in August
Makes you feel down.
Spring is the nicest season
Bringing lots of smiles.:)

Sarah's Weather Song

What's the weather?
What's the weather?
What's the weather everyone?
Is it windy ?
Is it cloudy?
Is there rain?
Or is there sun?

Isaac's Poem

I  like the  sun and  sunnydays.
I  enjoy the sea  where  everyone  plays.
But   in winter on cold  and windy day,
At  home  I  like  to  stay
